ISO 45001 Lead Auditor
Assessment & Examination
Assessment for ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification is designed to evaluate whether an applicant demonstrates the competence required to perform and lead Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) management system audits against ISO 45001.
Assessment focuses on knowledge, skills, and professional judgement relevant to the Lead Auditor role.
Assessment Components
Assessment may include one or more of the following components, as defined by the certification scheme:
Written examination
Evaluation of audit experience records
Review of supporting competence evidence

Written Examination
Where applicable, the written examination assesses knowledge of:
- ISO 45001 requirements
- OH&S management system principles
- Audit principles and audit techniques
- Auditor responsibilities and professional conduct
Examinations are conducted under controlled conditions to ensure fairness and consistency.
Audit Experience Review
Applicants may be required to submit evidence of audit experience relevant to OH&S management system auditing.
Audit experience records are reviewed to confirm:
- Relevance to ISO 45001 auditing
- Appropriate level of responsibility
- Alignment with the Lead Auditor role
Assessment Integrity
PPCB applies controls to ensure assessment integrity, including:
- Qualified and competent assessors
- Consistent assessment criteria
- Protection of examination materials
- Confidential handling of applicant information
Assessment Outcomes
Assessment outcomes are recorded and reviewed to determine whether certification requirements have been met.
Applicants may be required to provide clarification or additional evidence where necessary.
Separation of Assessment and Decision
Assessment activities and certification decisions are carried out as separate functions. Certification decisions are not made by individuals involved in the assessment of the applicant.

Assessment and examination activities are conducted in alignment with:
- ISO/IEC 17024 (certification of persons)
- ISO 45001 (OH&S management system audit competence)
